The Special Secretariat for the Protection of Unaccompanied Minors (SSPUAM) of the Ministry of Migration and Asylum is the competent national authority for the protection of unaccompanied and separated minors in Greece and was established by the 18/2020 presidential decree. SSPUAM designs, implements and monitors the National Strategy for the Protection of unaccompanied minors and is responsible for the accommodation, guardianship, integration, and overall well-being of all third country nationals or stateless persons under the age of 18 years who are deprived of parental care. By Law 4960/2022 the National Guardianship System was established, designating the Institutional Protection Unit of the SSPUAM as the competent Authority for the planning, implementation, monitoring and evaluation of guardianship.
